How to Stick With Your Workout Routine
By: Liz Moore
With chilly weather and winter right around the corner, a lot of my clients have been expressing their concerns with the challenges of continuing their workout routine throughout the winter months. The days get shorter and the nights get longer so if you’re an early workout person, it may become harder to wake up for that 6a workout. Or maybe the cooler weather and the holidays challenge you to get your workouts in at night. Here are some tips to help you continue your workouts and help you from hitting a plateau:
1. Get a workout buddy – having someone to meet for your workout will encourage you to get the workout in. It’s less tempting to hit the snooze button if you’re meeting someone.
2. Use a personal trainer or commit to Boot Camps/Classes. Similar to point number one, If you’re meeting a trainer or an instructor for a class that you’ve paid for, you’re less likely to skip your workout. Another benefit that comes with having a trainer or class to go to is that you don’t have to think about what you’re going to do for your workout that day – someone else does the planning for you!
3. Organize your workouts for the week on Sunday so you have a plan. It’s important to plan out your week – you do it for work, so why not do it for your workouts? Make your workout a priority!
4. Constantly change your workouts to keep your body guessing and to keep yourself from getting bored. Our bodies are amazing and they can remember if we repeat a workout. If we do the same workout routine week after week, our body will hit a plateau and progrsssion will stop. Change it up, learn new workout techniques and keep getting stronger!
